日本漫畫大師手塚治虫的著名作品《火之鳥》，主軸向生命意義提出了問號。「火之鳥」是中國傳說中的「火鳳凰」，亦是西方神話中的「不死鳥」。牠擁有千年的壽命，老去之後，牠會投身火中，然後獲得重生。相傳任何人只要嚐了火鳥的血即能獲得永恆的生命，長生不死。由古而今以至未來，為了這個遠古的夢想而引發的爭戰殺戮從沒間斷。
