IN THE HEAT OF THE SUN, the directorial debut by Jiang Wen, was world premiered at the 51st Venice Film Festival on 9th September1994.A critical and commercial success, it has rarely been seen in public since its initial release.

In 2013,a full digital restoration of IN THE HEAT OF THE SUN was undertaken by Orange Sky Golden Harvest Entertainment in collaboration with Jiang Wen. This new transfer was created in 4K resolution from a 35 mm international version inter-positive at L\\\' Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, Italy, and then digitally restored and colour graded in 2K resolution. Four scenes found missing from the inter-positive were restored from the original 35 mm camera negative.

The original optical Dolby Stereo, Dolby A encoded, was digitised with a 2K soundtrack scanner. After sonic damages caused by scratches and bad edits were removed, the sound source was decoded to its original four channels before being re-mastered at 24-bit into a more contemporary 5.1multi-channel theatrical mix.

Digitally restored and with a running time of 140 minutes, IN THE HEAT OF THE SUN is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. This is believed to be the most complete version to date.
